Babcock Noell GmbH Purchases windream Company License

Global player in nuclear, magnet and environmental technology manages project data with windream

February 8, 2011 | Bochum. – Babcock Noell GmbH (BNG), an internationally active company of the Bilfinger Berger Power Services GmbH based in Würzburg, have chosen windream as their company-wide Enterprise Content Management system.

Babcock Noell is among the world’s leading companies in the market sectors of nuclear, magnet and environmental technology. The decision on windream was made after a competitive bidding initiated by BNG, from which windream GmbH from Bochum emerged as the winner. The process of bidding, selection and evaluation was supervised by the Würzburg Business Application Research Center (BARC), a widely recognized research and consulting institute focusing on the sectors Business Intelligence and Enterprise Content Management (ECM). The decision in favor of the ECM system windream was based on extensive market research and evaluations according to a detailed list of criteria.

No "break in concept"

Wolfgang Kreuzer, CIO of Babcock Noell GmbH, emphasizes the fact that many systems on the market have grown historically in time, often resulting in “breaks in concept“ concerning the handling of the systems. According to Kreuzer himself, this does not hold true for windream. Der head of the IT department at Babcock Noell especially values the simple and logical handling, strictly applied to all functional areas: "With windream, we can pick up our employees right where they left off. This means they can continue their work as usual, without having to get used to the new system. Due to the integration of the ECM functions into Windows and Windows Explorer, windream does not require any effort in coaching."

Another unique trait of the ECM system windream, says Kreuzer, is the unproblematic management of hyperlinks. This is especially important for Babcock Noell since the company manages big amounts of project-related data in complex Excel sheets containing references to associated documents in windream. These references or hyperlinks can be used without any restrictions in windream, e.g. enabling users to open any referenced document saved in windream directly from the corresponding Excel file. Last but not least Wolfgang Kreuzer praises the flexibility of the system and its smooth and completely problem-free integration into existing IT infrastructures and specific applications.

In the future, Babcock Noell GmbH will use windream for managing their documents and project data company-wide. Kreuzer: "In our line of business, the amount of documents and mails is drastically increasing and it is not unusual for a project to contain one hundred thousand files in twenty thousand directories. With windream, we are convinced to have found an appropriate system capable of managing these amounts of data in a safe and efficient way."
